If your highlights are slightly brassy there is a violet shampoo that can be used to tone the highlights to beige blonde. There are several violet shampoos that can accomplish this toning affect, my favorite violet shampoo is by Aveda named Blue Malva. However, if the highlights are orangey colored, talk to a professional before attempting to correct the problem. In this case the violet shampoo might not help tone the highlights.

Color Correction

Is color easy to correct?

I advise not to try and fix any color correction. It’s better to seek professional help. I suggest this advice because even if the color correction looks easy, it’s not as easy to accomplish the right color or tone that is desired. When color correction is done a lot of times a professional will have to put pigment back into the hair that will get the right result. Only a trained professional will know how to correct this problem. I would like to add that I am a licensed trained professional. I specialize in hair color, highlights, and color correction.

Synthetic hair will not allow you to receive any chemical services and it limits your styling options.

How do I care for my hair extensions?I have three major recommendations.

  • The correct way to brush your hair with hair extensions would be to hold your hand on the base of the hair extension ( where the hair extension is placed) and begin brushing. It’s really important not to brush the base of the hair extension.
  • I recommend using a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner to wash your hair and the hair extensions.
  • My last recommendation is to use a soft bristle hair brush to comb your hair and hair extensions ( also avoid pulling on the hair extensions).

What is the best way to repair hair that is broken or has split ends?

I recommend that clients apply a protein treatment to their hair but this step needs to be applied under the supervision of a hair designer because too much protein can stiffen the hair and actually have adverse effects leading to more breakage. Typically, I will have a client apply a protein treatment with a dab of moisturizer to their hair once a month until the hair is repaired and then I encourage clients to get a deep conditioning treatment about every two months. In addition, a haircut every six to eight weeks will help repair the split ends.
